Allamuchy Firefighters Knock-Out Mulch Fire on Fathers Day

June 16, 2013 - At around 9:40am, Allamuchy Firefighters were alerted for smoke in the area of mile marker 17 on Rt80. With engine 91-63 in-service, an update was transmitted that the smoke was coming from a farm, near the same mile marker. Engine 91-61 went in-service, along with tender 91-71 to the updated address. As officers arrived on scene, a large mulch pile was found burning which prompted an immediate mutual aid request for additional tenders.

91-61 arrived on scene and laid a 3 inch supply line from the top of the drive way to the mulch fire. 91-63 drafted from a supply pool, set up by 91-71, to feed 91-61’s attack lines. Tenders from Allamuchy Fire Department, Green Township Fire Department and Independence Fire Department began making loops from the fire ground to the near-by fill site.

Farm owners were requested to the scene to help with a front-loader and backhoe to help dig out the mulch so firefighters could extinguish remaining hot spots.

The fire was placed under control about an hour later and all units were clear of scene by 12:30pm. See more photos
