Firefighters Respond to RT80 Rollover

May 5, 2013 - At around 3pm Allamuchy firefighters, along with Allaumchy-Green First Aid Squad, were alerted for a reported rollover motor vehicle accident on RT80. As Engine 91-63 went into service, they were given updates that the two occupants in the vehicle were able to self extricate themselves, but a motorcyclist was also involved in the wreck, who was only shaken up due to the accident happening directly in front of him.

As firefighters arrived on scene, they found a mason dump carrying quarry grit overturned, dumping its load across the highway. Firefighters quickly assisted rescue personnel with the two victims, stabilized the truck, and gained access to the engine compartment to cut the battery. During size-up, it was also discovered that a large container of diesel fuel was also involved resulting in the dispatch of Warren County Hazmat.

Further investigation appears that the mason dump had a blow out while traveling east-bound in the slow lane, lost control of the vehicle, went air born off the center median and rolled across the 3 lanes of highway going west-bound.

State Police requested DOT to respond to the scene with a street cleaner to assist with clean up as traffic backed up both directions for over 4 miles. The official cause of the accident is under investigation by NJSP.
